In the fast paced world qualities such as kindness can be overlooked, but research indicates that showing and receiving kindness support a lift in mood, making us feel happier and reducing anxiety. This presentation looks at the research and the benefits of being kind, what you can do, what the obstacles may be and the positive impact of volunteering. It includes links to videos, with timings so you can ascertain if they fit with your timing schedule. There are also optional discussion points and links to further reading and sources. The Teaching Notes include a link to duplicate a quiz on Forms to discover students attitudes to kindness and there is a printable exit ticket to go with the plenary slide. There is a whole world out there to see, but travel is expensive, so this lesson looks at ways of seeing the world without breaking the bank, using skills and training young people might pick up on the way and alerts them to looking out for opportunities while students. This would go well as a follow-up to a presentation on Gap Years or a talk from a colleague about their travel experiences. Osteoporosis Week comes at the beginning of June, but this could be part of PHSE at any juncture. The lesson discusses what the condition is and how it can affect the body, but also looks at preventative members and poses the question of why young people should be thinking of this/be aware now. In many ways it contributes to supporting a healthy diet and exercise regime, also highlighting the contributing factors of alcohol and smoking, eating disorders and steroid tablets. There is a quiz on Forms to introduce students to thinking about the topic and the link to duplicate is in the Teaching Notes. We want our students to go out into the world and make healthy and informed choices.

As Remembrance Day approaches in November, this is a lesson to reflect on the origins of the day, to consider how it is commemorated and why and to think about the significance of the red poppy, purple poppy and white poppy. It also reflects on the lessons learned and gives students opportunities to think about both personal meaning and meaning for society. It looks at what symptoms are involved, the value of support and sources of help. It also introduces the idea of the impact on the workplace and the value of support there, bearing in mind that students will be going into workplaces in the future, managing teams and being part of the decision-making, so gives the opportunity to discuss menopause policy in the workplace.
